- Eczema = not cool. I have extremely dry skin and for some reason this winter is getting to me.
- Watched Elf last night (I mean how could we miss it when TBS had it on repeat 60 times). God, Will Ferrell cracks me up.
- I truly enjoy cooking. Honestly, I do. Call me Betty Crocker. (Ha!)
Got me a good glass of wine, some Christmas music and a new recipe from Food & Wine. I was inspired by the latest Food & Wine issue, mainly because the recipes sounded so good, a little more gourmet & not that hard. I'll save a recipe if it sounds good and has ingredients that are feasible. Right now, I'm making a 'slow cooker' recipe of Italian sausage & vegetable risotto. The steps were clear and easy to follow so we will see how it turns out!
- I've been pondering ah, life and such lately. I'm actually glad that I'm not getting my degree this semester because it has caused me to look for jobs that I honestly would have not considered a month ago. I tend to get so focused sometimes that I miss the obvious. I was intent on getting my MA & teaching. And that was it. I had the Doh! epiphany moment when I was like...I don't have to do that. Hello!
I've got some other experience doing administrative work and I like seeing what other things I could do. Not saying I'll get any of the jobs, but it makes me feel productive knowing I'm putting myself out there. Maybe I will teach, maybe I won't. But I've realized that life doesn't always transition so perfectly into what I've planned.
Which leads me to ask you readers, What path did you follow to get to where you are now? (your job/career/profession/whatever you want to call it) How did you find your niche? or have you?

Mr.F and I watched Elf last night too! Love that movie.
Still on the Great Niche Search. I used to think I had my answer: When I graduate I will be an attorney. Now I have to figure out what kind of attorney. (And there's a book on my shelf entitled: What Else Can You Do with a Law Degree?)
I second that Libby. :) I still have no idea. But I do know that I don't want to do what I am doing right now. That's a start, right?
I think you have the right idea though! Put yourself out there and I am sure you will be delightfully surprised. I'm hoping the same thing will happen for me. We'll see..... Have a great day!
Elf is a great movie! I need to watch it again!
I'm a teacher, and I did it pretty sequentially. I went to college for elementary and special ed, did student teaching during my senior year, did all the resume, job search stuff, got hired a week before graduating, and I've been at that job for 2 years now. Pretty boring right? :)
I love Elf--it made me laugh so hard the first time I saw it.
Well, I'm still trying to find my niche. (sometimes I feel like I'm living in Libby's book about what else you can do with a law degree!)
Thanks for the inspiration!! Oh, I can completely relate. My friend and I are so desperate for TCBY, and the closest one is about 30 min. Not too far, but definitely not close enough when you have a craving! I've considered starting my own franchise, but my hubby said that was a little extreme! :)
Finally found my niche, Stay-at-home mom to 2 special needs boys after being a buyer/manager for 2 major department stores, school for dental assisting, front office manager for 2 dental offices.
I started out as a teacher, became a principal, worked in state-level government doing education policy work and now I'm an education consultant - so my post-grad degree in education took me many places. I think I have finally found my niche, I get to do lots of different things, ranging from writing charters for charter school applicants to coaching principals.
Plus I get to do a lot of it from home which really works out well when you are 4 months pregnant and have a 20 month old!
I inheirited (sp?) a sewing machine from my Grandmother. It sat in a closet for Months. I finally took it out and messed with it. Now I own my own web based sewing/design business! Crazy where we end up.
Also, I moved with my boyfriend of two months (TWO MONTHS!) to another state to live with him. My family thought it was just a phase. We've been married for six years now! You must take chances and put yourself out there. Only you know what's right for you.
You've got the right idea about looking on the bright side of graduating in the spring, way to bounce back. There is good in everything, even if we can't see it at first.
I love what I do, and I'm pretty good at it, but a lot of times I feel that architecture, although it's what I've always wanted to be (that, and president of the USA, seriously) I feel like I could be better at something else. I flirt with the idea of going back to school to become a real-estate lawyer. I'm good at what I do, but I feel like I could be GREAT at something else, not sure what that is yet though.
Good luck on the search! You'll find your niche!
Great post. I got a degree in PR/Communications, I went to Breckenridge and was a ski bum for a year, then moved back to the South and through a family friend ended up at a travel agency doing special events and meeting planning. The owner of my company introduced me to my husband and he moved me to NYC where I'm now working as a special events coordinator at a hospital. I HAVE NOT found the right job for me yet and am currently trying to figure out what the right job is. Funny to look back at all that has happened in just 5 years!
