Soooo

Random thoughts today:

1. Angelina, Gwen Stefani, Jessica Alba pregnant - what's in the water!?!?

2. Britney Spears back in the hospital. I feel so bad for reading TMZ but I just want to say leave her alone already!

3. Superbowl - What are your plans?? We used to have get-togethers but I think this year it may just be us & the queso dip. I'm not a big NFL fan, but Mr. likes the Pats (his dad is a HUGE fan) and with the snowy forecast, I think we may be all snuggled in for it.

4. Martha's Classic Tomato Soup. Yum, I made it last night for dinner and it was sooo good and creamy. I mean, there is a lot of butter in it, but so worth it. And with just a few ingredients.

5. Cell phone - I had my last phone for over 3 years and besides a few bad service areas, it was fine. Less than 2 weeks I've had my new phone and the outer screen is on the fritz. Weird, I can't see caller id and don't know who I'm speaking to before I open it. Reminds me of the days before caller id...what did we DO?!

It's been getting a bit lonely around here. As with any new job, the Mr. has been putting in long hours and days so our time together is shorter. I've had a few bummed out days but yesterday I went to get an eyebrow wax and a latte. And sometimes that's just all ya need to feel good! Hopefully, I'll be started to work in the next few weeks (being a substitute) and meeting people/having conversations!

Nostalgia

I was so excited to find out about these blogs, The Dairi Burger and BSC Headquarters. They brought back such memories from my childhood. Oh yes! I was a nerdy, quiet girl and loved to read. I remember during the summers, when we weren't at the pool, I would go to the library - check out 10 books and devour them. I remember getting lost in those books. Good childhood times. About 2 years ago, I was talking to my mother and somehow the Babysitter's Club came up. (Actually, I think it might have been for a class or something). The conversation turned to how she had slowly merged her elementary school classroom library with mine and how many of my BSC books were missing or lost. Then, I turned to Ebay (yes! thank you Ebay) and ordered a big chunk of the series for $40.00. I honestly sat around and read them for like 2 weeks straight. Ha!

Then, after reading through those blogs and thinking about all of the other books I read as a kid - I once again turned to Ebay. Again, for like $30.00, I have purchased more books that made me nostalgic for childhood. (My real excuse is that when we have kids, they will want to read these books...right? Long term investments ;)

Beverly Cleary & Judy Blume - Classics!! I can't wait to re-read them. I'm sure I'll be doing some book reports!

Sleepover Friends. Oh, great, girly series.

Nostalgia for childhood books + blogs + too much free time + Ebay = One happy nerdy camper.

Great Weekend

We had a nice break this weekend. I think the warmer weather helped our cabin fever (yes! out of the house). It is also so easy to get in the grind and routine of the week, that we forget to relax together. And so we did!

Went out for Indian food Friday night. Yummm. I'm definitely a wimp when it comes to spicy food, but I love Indian. I think we were so excited that we ordered a couple of appetizers and extra naan - but that was alright because we had a second Indian dinner of leftovers Saturday! I'm so glad we discovered this place because I will def. be back for some takeout!

We did a little driving/sight - seeing around the country side and lake. I got to see my first official
"frozen over" lake! And then I was like a little kid, exclaiming because we saw some kids out in the middle of the lake playing hockey. I'd never seen it before! I was like, "Drive closer!! I want to see" Then, of course, in our analysis - we wondered, how do they KNOW when they can go out there, isn't that dangerous...and on and on :)

Made a BIG trip to the grocery which was in dire need. We stocked up on everything. I love getting home, putting the groceries away and feeling all stocked up. Don't know why but I love being like, "Oh, you need some Feta - here's an unopened container!". Uhh, I'm a dork.

Anyhoo, made some low-fat and delicious brownies and I'm looking forward to making the spinach dip you all recommended later. Took Ralph for a loonnggg walk and it was super enjoyable to go outside not bundled up like skier.

That's about it for now!

Thank You

I don't usually talk about religion here because, well, its my thing.

But today in church, I heard the most beautiful Thank You I've ever encountered.

We've only been going to this church for a few weeks and we don't know anyone really.
This morning the priest invited up a man to the podium, whom he introduced as simply saying Mr. L, who you may or may not know wants to say thank you.

As the older man struggled to get to the podium, the congregation got really quiet. He started by talking about his struggle with lung cancer, how he kept working (at his local grocery store he started, ran and owned), how he asked to priest to anoint him and how he asked the church to pray for him. Telling jokes along the way, making the congregation laugh and cry together.

And he tells us that the cancer is gone. He recently found out. And he wanted a way to thank us for praying for him. So, he invited his daughter up to the podium. He goes, "And this is my Thank You." He opens his mouth and starts singing, "Thank you Lord," in a voice that just sent chills down my back. He and his daughter go on to sing and the congregation rises in a standing ovation.

I wish I could express the emotion that I felt in that moment. He wanted to thank people for praying for him.

It was the most perfect thank you.

Just trying to keep warm today! And making fresh bread. From a mix, nonetheless, but I added yeast and kneaded - that counts right? And the kitchen smells yummy. I'm also looking for a good spinach dip recipe - got any? My favorite was a spinach dip from Publix that wasn't too creamy (still had all the good stuff in it) and I'm trying to re-create it.

And another random question for you bloggers - I'm wanting to catch up on past Real Housewives of the OC - do you know where I can rent it?

Here are a couple Spring Teasers:

1. Lilly P. men's boxers: I don't know about you all, but I usually sleep in t-shirts and boxers (which are most of the time my husbands). I saw these (knowing I would never be able to buy them for my husband) but why not for myself? Cute with bright patterns!

2. Old Navy bag: This bag is only $10.00 online, super preppy and perfect for spring. This whole "no shopping" thing is especially hard when there are GREAT deals like this...

Hello there!

My hope is to be UBER productive this week in beginning to study and writing the thesis again. I really need to jump right back into it and finish this bad boy up! Also, I think I'm going to try to sub in our school district as a way to make money and gain some experience. I believe I have a plan. I think. Based on my experience in the school district, I'm probably going to take some classes to become certified. I been wallowing in the fact that I could kick myself for not getting a graduate degree that included certification (b/c I can't really get hired without it - which is a whole different issue, in my book) but that's life, ain't it? I'm hoping to get a specific idea of things and put it to work this summer.
Also, I'm really into watching the primaries for the 2008 Presidential election. I think politics is one of those touchy things to discuss but I think we can all agree, no matter who you're giving your vote to, this race has everyone tuning in and listening - which is great!

12. Favorite reality TV show? Just one! Lately, The Real Housewives of the OC.

13. What was the last movie you watched? I think the Mr. and I watched The Family Stone a few weeks ago. I love it, Mr. thought some of it was cheesy. It amazes me what he takes away from movies sometimes.

14. Favorite day of the year? Well, Christmas, birthday and Valentine's Day are fun but really, that first day of Warmth - when you know it's definitely spring and you can officially drive with windows down. Love those days.

34. Favorite day of the week? Thursday.

35. How many states have you lived in? Virginia, South Carolina, New York and Indiana

36. Celebrity crush? Hugh Grant, was on Top Gear and my, what a little Charmer!!! It's the accent.

37. Ever driven a motorcycle or heavy machinery? Hahahaha. No way.

38. Who is your favorite NFL team? Not really right now. I like the idea of being able to drink in the stadium, though, so maybe I'll become a fan!

39. Do you have a house phone that is not cordless? No.

40. 10 inches of snow or 100 degree weather? Hmm, I'm getting used to the snow but I've dealt with 100 degrees and humidity many times. Including our wedding day. Which was an extra special heat wave on the SC coast in August. Even the water was hot. Sweat, sweat, sweat. Oy!

Snowy Tuesday

I hate to sound boring but not too much to say here today. Our weekend was cold! (Not as cold as these bloggers, though). But still very cold for us, so we hit up the grocery for supplies and snuggled in all weekend. Oh, we went out for sushi Friday but the service was pretty bad and the sushi wasn't so great. And expensive. Bummer. Saturday, I took Ralph to the vet because I noticed his ears were bothering him and found out he had infections in both! Yikes. Of course, he wouldn't let them go anywhere near his ear, so they gave him anesthesia to clean them. And came home groggy. Poor guy couldn't walk straight and we had to laugh at him because he kept following us around the house like he was drunk. I also tackled the office, which was a mess of unopened boxes, and tried to get that somewhat organized. It's fun to open boxes and find useful items, like the dustbuster! Woohoo.

Oh and we've been watching Weeds, the Showtime series (since we have it on demand). It is pretty good, I enjoy a good series. And honestly, I can get addicted to a series, especially when I know I can watch more. Oh, Oscar nominations anyone? The only movie I've actually seen is American Gangster. Juno and Atonement are on my list now.

Speaking of the weather, this extreme cold/dry heat of recent is taking its toll on my skin. I have realllly dry skin and now it is becoming worse. I use Aveeno and Aquafor products but do you bloggers have any winter skin recommendations??

Off to watch Jon & Kate plus 8. You know why I like them? Because out of allllll the reality shows - they are real. They have children stress, life stress, money stress and they argue. And love each other. I like this. In other disturbing TV news (do I need to get a job much?? This is most I've watched TV in foreverrr), Rock of Love with Bret Michaels started season 2 with gusto. I mean of course, we can all make fun of it because it is so bad. My mother is watching it. Thinks its ridiculous and takes her mind off of everything. This completely disturbs me!!

I'll be back later - probably with a meme!

Spring in your step!

I'm missing the daily reads!

Perfectly Plump Preppy
All That's Pink and Green and In between

May I be invited back? (btriple@gmail.com)

Adding a little spring cheer and warmth to your weekend:

My favorite Spring 2008 Lilly finds (trying not to go overboard with the want list)

Absolutely love this dress. Can see getting SO much wear out of it and versatility with changing the ribbon. LOVE.

Love the bright yellow polka dot skirt.

Again, LOVE. Love the shape, the collar and sleeves of this. Looks uber comfy and yet could dress it up with a belted waist.
Check out this new polo company:

Southern Tide
(can't get pics)

I know, I know. You're thinking, how many more polo companies to we need. I thought the same thing before Mr. bought one at a men's store. The founder is a young, college grad who tested all "high end" polos before he made this one. You can read his stories on the website but the polo has enough stretch in it to fit well, but not tight or awkward. The Mr. really likes his and the best part is that I can throw them in the wash and they (haven't) shrunk or faded. I can't wait for the women's line, although I'm just tempted to buy a men's! I like supporting companies I feel a connection to and that are local (ish).

Have a fabulous weekend!

EVOO and other random things

First off, Lisagh at Grosgrain Garage is having a virtual soiree and it is a fabulous event -stop by!
I know I've said it before, and so have many of you, but the more I read, the more I love this blogging network. I can't tell you how great it is and how it has helped me to feel connected, especially these last few months of moving and transition. So, Cheers to Bloggers!

2. Rachael Ray. Some people love her, some can't stand her. I fall in between. I used to be obsessed (think 3 or 4 years ago before she blew up). And I have to give her credit as to teaching me how to cook, or chop up garlic and onions in the skillet for a meal. Her meals were (and are) easy, simple and I could buy ingredients in the SC Bi-lo. Well, most of the meals were - we will exclude the Day old bread tomato stoup - that was definitely a failure. Anyhoo, I enjoyed sitting down, watching her 30 minute meals and for the first time, feeling like I was capable of cooking. And now? I love cooking. Then, I'll admit, RR got obnoxious. I was like, Girl, I can TELL you drink coffee 24/7!! And quit watching her. Recently, I got into watching her morning talk show and I think she's calmed down. I enjoy watching her live show and her sitting down with celebs because she is down to earth. And, she's a female cook who has a NORMAL body - this I love. She enjoys her pasta, cooks healthy and isn't obsessed. I appreciate that.

But what I really love? Are all of the wrap dresses she wears! (Obviously they figured out that those dresses are super flattering) but she has a fabulous plethora of them. And I really like this outfit she is wearing here. So, those are my thoughts on the RR.

3. I had a student ask me to write a recommendation for him and that really excited me. I felt flattered!

4. In an effort to bring down our credit card/student loan in a big way...I'm really AVOIDING shopping. Oh help! Actually, it has been fine so far because I've just been bumming around in jeans and sweaters. Well, except for my thermal long sleeved purchases at Old Navy (what, for under 10.00 I got 3 layering shirts I desp. needed!). I'm just going to wait around until later spring because I really don't NEED a darn thing. People probably think I'm crazy because I'm walking around Old Navy muttering to myself, "Do you neeedd this?" Ha. Also, I'm happy that Gap (as many of you have mentioned and purchased) is stepping up their game because their prices are more affordable for classic pieces. I am giving my budget a reality check and Gap can fit into it! (unlike J.Crew).

5. I watched the Lifetime movie, Queen Sized, with the girl from Hairspray, Nikki Blonsky the other day. It was good in Lifetime standards. But something that was curious to me? They set it in South Carolina. ANd mentioned it 23432 times. And yet, no one had a slightly Southern accent. And they all referred to the University of South Carolina as "South Carolina", not "USC" or "Carolina" (because we all know what the REAL university of SC is...:) as it is normally is referred. Just seemed strange to me, that's all.

6. Speaking of SC, after a phone call with one of my best girlfriends, who was headed out to Kiawah Island to visit a friend, I realized I was lonely for that neck of the woods!! I'll admit, I do miss the South at this moment. Probably just the cold weather and the phone call but Oh, I miss the lowcountry! However, I am really enjoying where we live and everyone is friendly - which def. makes me feel at home. And I'll probably be relieved when the South is sweating it out during the summer and we are nice and coooll. Oh, and our public library? Is pretty sweet. Only a nerd like myself could get excited about this but it is super close to our house, new, big, with a huggee selection of books (especially the Young adult because I do love to go back and read books of the teen angst variety) and has private "quiet" rooms for studying. Word.

7. Not too much on the agenda for this weekend. It is supposed to be freezing. Like in the negatives. Yikes! I have a feeling we will be hunkered down with warm tea, blankets and books. Which sounds just fine to me. Oh, and maybe purchasing some shelves to we can finally start to unpack the office and put stuff up. That's about it - have a WARM weekend.

For you Real Housewives of the OC viewers, re-cap of this week's episode.
Ok, Tamra turning 40 was interesting. To say the least. I think the best line was when Vicki said, "I think they call those tattoos Tramp Stamps!" Hahaha. Quinn and Billy? I can't quite figure out Quinn yet. And seriously? All of these women would look so much better if they just put a nice polo oxford on - they could even unbutton it but do you really need to be wearing tops that my friends and I would have MAYBE worn out dancing in college? Really?! Oh and George and Lauri - is this wedding for real? If I hear her say I want it to be magical I'm going to scream! Although, for some reason, I enjoy she & George together. I haven't watched any of the previous seasons (which I'm planning on doing!) but they seem good together. But, I think she could've held off on the plastic surgery. Way too much! Which just about describe their lifestyles anyway.

Joey, is that you??

(photo fr. Just Jared) Katie Holmes has dramatically changed since her days at Dawson's Creek, eh?

The rest of our weekend was good - we enjoying the warmer weather, watched some football and hung out. I made chicken noodle soup last night with grilled cheeses - yum! Mr. remarked that if anyone saw our fridge, they would assume we were on a liquid diet because we have many juices, Diet Coke, beer and tons of leftover soups. We are basically existing on soup because it is warm and easy. And so. damn. cold today, I got Ralph out for a walk but it didn't last too long. Running some errands today and I'll catch up with you later.

City of Lights

We had a lovely weekend, which included a venture to a different neighborhood of our city, known for funky boutiques and bars. I've been telling Mr. I would love to find a French restaurant and lo and behold! When we had scanned the area twice when we stumbled across a lovely little French cafe.

It was small and perfect. It was painted a fabulous green (think an olive and kelly green mixed..in the best way!), had white wainscoting, fresh fuschia flowers and an ambiance I was eating up. We sat at one of the tables that was bar height, you know, just high enough so you could swing your legs and with a perfect people watching view out the window. I was digging it and the food! Croque monsieurs, fresh salads, and CREPES with anything...including Nutella. Nutella crepes are heavenly. So, we sat there, me chattering away with happiness and drinking my latte in a mug big enough to be a bowl. I ordered an omelette which came with a bread choice, including brioche. Oh yes! Definitely the brioche, I said. Would you like us to put cinnamon sugar on that...ummm YES! When our food came out (me - omelette, fresh and light, puts my eggs at home to Shame!) and I looked over at Mr. happily eating his croque monsieur with a fried egg and dijion bechamel sauce (that was delicious as well) and I had one of those moments. Sitting there, savoring every little bite of the cinnamon, buttery goodness of that brioche, sipping my latte, watching my husband and swinging my legs to the jazz they had playing - I just felt happy, content and reminiscent. It was a delicious lunch and perfect afternoon and reminded me of our first "real" trip together - to Paris.

A little bit of background. Ever since I can remember I've been a "francophile," although I wasn't quite aware of it. When I was younger, I always had the French country side calendars, watched things about France, wrote my 5th grade country report on France and took French throughout high school and college. I became enamored with the French language and culture, especially in high school. I never got to go to visit France but it was on my life to do list.

When I met the Mr., his parents were stationed in Germany for work and they were busy taking advantage of living in Europe. He would spend his summer/winter vacations in Europe and so, after we had been dating, I got to visit Europe and we used their home as a base for traveling. Post 9/11, I was not a good traveling companion (I'm still not!) anxious, worried but still wanted to travel. We planned, talked and planned some more. Initially, we were just going to hang around Germany and make day trips to cities by train. Of course, in my usual way, I mentioned that I wanted to go to France 502495823 times. And we were so close, why not go?

And so we planned our "romantic" 3 day getaway to Paris by train. But, as chez Mr. & Mrs. TP operates, our trip wasn't perfect, but was a picture of our life together. The train ride was about a 5 hour trip, our hotel was near the Eiffel tower and we had a few maps and a little bit of money.

And he also had food poisoning. The kind they warn you about when traveling, the kind you desperately hope you never have. Let's just say the Mr. will probably never eat seafood pasta in Germany again. Ever. The train ride = pitiful for him. Me, I read and scrambled to remember all of the French I should have known!

We got to the Metro, got our bags, my pitiful speaking French got us lost, confused and arguing in the Metro. Thankfully, we found our hotel which was small, clean and had a good sized bathroom (for Europe). We napped and re hydrated because Mr. was still feeling pretty crappy. We wandered around, found the Eiffel tower(yay!), and did the ultimate people watch - from an outdoor French cafe behind sunglasses. We found the neighborhood Boulangerie and I ate wayyy to many pastries. We tried to find le pharmacie that would have medicine for the Mr.

Our romantic weekend in the City of Lights? Our first real trip together? We were in bed by 9 every night, Mr. was only able to make it to one dinner, We made it to the Louvre for an afternoon, I ate french bread, french pastries galore, we hunted the neighborhood for decent pharmacy (not French diet pills, for the love?! a CVS? - was the real mantra that weekend), I perused the loveliest little bookstore that felt like the set of a movie, I read 4 books and watched BBC, Mr. slept and we cracked our inside jokes at zeee frencchhhh.

We laughed at the irony of the the situation and you know, I couldn't have asked for a better trip to the City of Lights. As as I sat in the cafe this weekend, I was reminded of this guy who went to Paris with me, sick, on a train. I pictured this athletic rugby player trying to squeeze into the ridiculously tiny seats at a restaurant and ordering tiny French food and enjoying himself with me. I was reminded of how he did it happily with me, for me and how our life & trips & excursions will never be perfect but they will be ours.

This was the breakfast room at our hotel. LOVED the decor and loved that I got served croissants and Nutella for breakfast. I took a picture just to remember the design of it.

View fr. our hotel.

Pardonnez the cheesy pic but come on, you gotta do it!

People Watching. That is all I'm going to say.

Friday!

Listening : John Legend, "Each Day Gets Better"
Reading: Richard Ford, Independence Day

*Btw, PPP, may I be invited to view, please?*

Not too much excitement to report. I had a lovely time wandering around the mall for a few hours, taking all the time I needed. I love my Mr. and he always accompanies me shopping (which is fun) but sometimes a gal needs her time to peruse, right? I hit up the make-up mecca, Sephora....love it, could spend hours there. I love the "sample" section and I picked up Philosophy's lip balm, "Kiss me all over," which I ended up enjoying. Also, picked up my favorite face coverage, "Smooth Operator," by Tarte. It is quite pricier than drugstore lines, but this bottle lasted me more than a year! So, what's your Sephora/department store splurge?

Annd, I'm going to go ahead and jump on the spring line bandwagon. I was enamored with a few things, but I wasn't itching to buy anything because I know that I won't be needing spring gear for awhile! I'm trying to only replace what I really need, too. And it was a good feeling to leave the mall without buying any clothes (make-up, yes but it was badly needed!).

Banana Republic = loved. Fabulous, bright colors and great dresses. I loved their accessories and see myself incorporating a lot of those in my wardrobe.

This bag? Navy and Green preppy perfection. Made me wish I had a couple hundred dollars to drop on it!

Liked the style of this dress a lot, curious as to how it would look on, though.
Kimba, the navy version of this cardigan with buttons that were rope knots reminded me of your wedding! So cute.

This week was productive and now I'm going to start the monumental task of organizing wedding photos and framing them...should be fun to brighten up a dreary winter day! I think we are going to work on some (very late) holiday/change of address cards for our family. Since my recent new schedule change, I've been up around 6:30 every morning, entering the world of "news" talk shows in the morning. Let me tell ya, I'm pretty bored and tired of hearing about Hillary's "emotional" episode, Britney Spears & Dr. Phil's intervention and the Golden Globes being canceled. I mean, it is all interesting, but is it worth dragging out?? Not really. Weekend plans don't include anything specific, just hanging out and picking up stuff for the house. I'm thinking we need to go out for sushi - I haven't had it in awhile. Any good movies worth seeing at the theaters?
Does anyone else crack up at the T-Mobile commercial where the guy is trying to leave a voicemail, but keeps erasing them because they are too dorky, "Too creepy" and then at the end he mentions he's a "sweet salsa dancer" while showing his moves,? For some reason, I crack up all over at that ad.
I think it is supposed to snow but I'd like to be able to fit in a long hike/walk. Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

It is hard to believe it is Wednesday already!
Some random things I've been enjoying:
How to Look Good Naked on Lifetime network. Gals, seriously, this show is an EYE opener. Carson Kressley basically makes over the self esteem of women who don't have positive body image. He shows them how to get better undergarments, dress better and feel better. This is the best "makeover" show I've ever seen. I honestly laughed and cried. One segment that was enlightening was when Carson showed a video of 3 different women walking down the street in 3 different types of outfits. One looked younger, stylish and more confident (and slimmer), come to find out it was the same woman. He also has Layla (the lady on the show) put herself in a line of women where she thought her body size was - she was way off! Anyway, just really opens your eyes to body image and how a lot of women don't give themselves any credit. I'll be checking it out next week for sure!

And onto something a little, ahem, less uplifting: Real Housewives of Orange County. It's official, I'm obsessed with this show. Hilarious and yet, fascinating. Will people watch this in 50 years and think that is how women lived? hmmmm...anyway, good for brainless TV. In fact, I may be getting the other seasons so as to "catch up" ;) I found out even my mother watches this show! My mother, who hates cable, hates the internet and will usually only watch the news, watches the Housewives.

Little things in life I enjoy, like our new kitchen cabinets. Our townhouse is by no means luxury but well built with new/nice appliances. They had just updated the cabinets and seriously, it thrills me when I open a smooth, heavy drawer. And what thrills me even more is that we have cabinet space for almost all of our kitchen stuff. Ahh, the small things!

Which leads me to this book I thumbed through at the Barnes & Noble, The Southern Cottage. I love it! I mean really just encompasses the style I love: comfortable, clean and bright. As a lover of the "cozy" (should really just rename the blog that because I mention cozy about every day!) I loved the houses and really gave me some inspiration for decorating.

Speaking of decorating, I love "subway tiles," the clean white look. This Subway Ceramics website has fabulous pictures of the tile in bathrooms. I love it for kitchens and/or bathrooms. In fact, every time I see the tiles on a tv show or in a store, I tell my husband and he says, "Babe, I know...you've mentioned it 345435 times, we will have subway tile one day." What can I say, I'm a repeater - he knew what he was getting into.
Now, if only I had a house to work with...!!

Sorry, this just sparked a random rant, be forewarned. You know what annoys me? I talk about houses and the Mr. and I are keeping our eyes open in the next year or 2 to buy because really? We are tired of throwing away money on rent and are ready to make some investments. But I know plenty of people, including several friends of mine, who are younger than me who are married and walked into a house the day they got married. Now, listen, plenty of people can afford that - but my friends and people I know who have just graduated, bought houses and are now decorating with antiques, orientals and other expensive wares? You're in your early twenties, you have time to work on this. The house doesn't have to be perfect! One thing the Mr. and I are looking forward to is working together for our future. Finding a house we want, working towards it and doing it together. I just don't like when people expect certain things early on. Oh well!!

I think I'm off to the mall, we still have a few gift cards we got as wedding presents! Woo for late presents. Have a great day!

Morning Routines and other things

I quite enjoy my morning routine...in some order it involves coffee, cereal or banana toast, checking emails and straightening up around the house. Now, I told hub that I would get up with him earlier...like way earlier, 5:45 a.m., when he gets up so we could be on the same schedule. Btw, this has lasted one day so far. Part of my detox after the holidays was to switch back to drinking tea in the morning. I'm slightly obsessed with my morning lattes and my caffeine intake. I know it isn't great and tea lends itself to a more quiet boost. Anyhoo, I'm enjoying my morning tea immensely and I do feel better. I love my lattes and don't think I'll ever give them up completely but I'll keep em to a minimum. Also, I love our new teapot, which we picked up at Tuesday Morning. Tuesday is a TJ Maxx of sorts, with housewares and decorating. Honestly, half of their stuff is junk to me BUT their kitchen selection is great and half off of its normal price. Breville, Krups, Le Creuset...so we picked up a teapot, lasagna dish, bread knife and Bodum glasses for cheap!

Speaking of morning routines, I usually walk the dog every morning and today, it is pouring outside! (PS. Walking trails, ponds and sidewalks right near our house = love!). I know the 3 other people we saw out this morning were laughing their asses off ...I was wearing my husband's bright green raincoat which was about 3 sizes too big with the convenient (yet dorky looking) hood, bright pink hand weights and pants soaked by the rain. Then, I got annoyed and thought I'd just jog back only because that would get us home faster. Me, running in that get-up, and a dog who doesn't prefer rain and loves to stop, oh, about every 10 feet to do the "wet dog" shake, must have been an early morning sight!

On a whole different and introspective note, I have trouble clarifying myself sometimes. In life, in what I want and how I want it. Even as an English person/teacher, I have trouble clarifying what I mean to say, verbally or orally. And I don't like it! I'm constantly working so that I'm making myself clear and specific. I think blogging helps me a bit but sometimes it just feels like I let my brain get scattered in about 50 directions and I have a hard time focusing on exactly what I mean or say. Annnd, as you can tell, I obviously neurose and obsess about these little things. I am the queen of neurotic obsession, sometimes its funny, mostly it is aggravating and I need to "Let IT go." I'm constantly working on not obsessing, yet, ironically, I obsess about that. Eiiyiie. All that to say, these past few weeks, I've been trying to clarify to myself "what do I want to do/pursue/be/create?". There are many things I wouldn't mind doing, things I enjoy doing but do I really WANT to do. I've been looking at administrative type jobs, teaching jobs and a few other things. I know everyone says, "Do what you love," but I also consider the 45 (on a good day) minute commute a part of that and the pay (bad, I know...but also a part of reality). Of course, my husband is beyond supportive and says, "I don't care, do what will make you happy," which is lovely but not helpful. Do I want to teach a class or 2 an hour away for a little amount of money or wait on the job I want? I'm also a very impatient person and like to have the decisions made and be settled. My energy and enthusiasm are great qualities but sometimes make me seem aggressive and enhance my impatience. Oh, and I have a thesis to finish up. And sure, like any English person (among a lot of others), I'd love to write for a living. Am I afraid I don't have the will-power, discipline and skills to write what I want? Hell yeah. Am I afraid I'm missing out on life's passion? Kind of, but I want to take some time to figure it out.

That being said, I'm taking time to enjoy my life, be content and get clear with what I want. I think it is the time to sit back and wait and not be so impatient. Whew, it helps to write it all out! Well, I'm glad I clarified that! ;)

This Weekend

This weekend = running around, getting stuff done and watching Scrubs. All in all, good, I say!

- Friday, I ran around all afternoon to Target, Office Depot (trying to find a scanner that was Just a scanner), grocery store...you name it, I was there. I also made the mistake of trying to return a pair of Christmas pjs to Target. My mom got them for me as a little tradition gift but they were the wrong size and I just didn't need them. I mean $20 at Target is better than nothing, right? Long story, my mother, in all of her Christmas wrapping ways, tore the tag off and with no gift receipt was long time wasted. Oh, and don't even get me started on their Spring stuff. I had the anchor embroidered bermudas in my cart and realized that seriously? It's January and no reason to buying them. But so cute, maybe I will and just save them.
I also got some wrist weights with holes for thumbs - makes it easier for walking with them and verdict on them? Well, my arms are sore today! Also, made some fresh hummus, boy, was it good! Fresh garlic, lemon, olive oil really enhances the flavors. I could and do eat a gallon of it with carrots or chips. Mr. was tired so we walked to get some pizza and drinks and called it a night.

- Saturday, once again, we ran around getting new cell phones (my first in 3 years...they really do last!), actually purchasing the scanner, going out to lunch. I'm not a big red meat eater (not for any reason other than preference really) but I'll eat a burger once in awhile when I'm inclined. We stopped at a grill that specialized in Bison and Bison burgers. I thought, why not?
Uhh, it was tasty, but reminded myself how meat makes my stomach feel heavy. Then, we made the ROUNDS at furniture stores - checking out prices and what we wanted. Good news - Mr. and I are pretty much eye to eye taste wise. We both love the clean lines of "modern" furniture but mixed with traditional pieces, textures and fabrics. Great. We found a store that we just absolutely loved. Prices = not so much our budget. Then, we checked out your local chain furniture places which are just bad quality for somewhat bad prices. Oh! And during our trek we spied Indian and Thai restaurants that we are putting on our list to try. We are pumped about the variety of ethnic foods here. Anndd checked out a couple antique stores. Ate shrimp and salad for dinner, watched Scrubs and went to bed.

- Today, attempted to hang up several of our many paintings/prints. One thing the Mr. and I have equally been collecting are prints, framed posters and paintings - so we have a lot, which I love but makes for decision time when hanging. Made Erin's Pumpkin chocolate chip bread (some for Husband to take to his new work with him, "Only 1 though," he says - must keep the rest for ourselves!) went to the store, church and did a few loads of laundry. Whew! Also made fresh pesto pasta. And ordered these comfy slippers and jacket from LL Bean - which I am very excited about.

- Everyone got their spring stuff out already and for once, I'm not dying for it. Maybe it is because I've convinced myself I won't be able to wear it for a loong time (def. not as early as I would in SC), so I'm putting it off but damn! is it cute! Hard to resist.

- I'm having some issues with the newest member of our family: Tomtom, the GPS. We love her (for she has a lovely Irish accent that we picked out) for getting us around this new city and finding, for example, our local grocery store, so we hadn't get lost. THEN, we curse her when she repeats "turn right now, turn right now" when we are using human common sense and going the right way!! Or when we want to simply search for antique stores and she can't find a darn thing.
It is a love/hate thing with our TomTom.

I finally have my computer set up and I'm feeling more organized and ready to start making some lists! I also have a potential interview this week and a few other things brewing, so that is really exciting. I really need a pedicure too. Oh well, catch up with later this week.

Things on my mind and resolutions..(?)

- Our first Christmas together was just how we wanted it. We got to eat a Christmas meal, enjoy our Christmas lights and movies on tv. It wasn't exactly how I imagined our first and wasn't as Normal Rockwell decorated as I hoped - but life ain't! New Years was perfect and cozy and dear lord, I cannot start drinking cocktails at dinner and be expected to stay awake until the stroke of midnight!!

- Umm, it is cold. VERY cold and I bundled up to take Ralph for a walk this morning and I do believe the poor guy was shivering too, so we cut it short back to the house. At least the sun was out, meanwhile, I'll try take advantage of the "cozy" of our house and the warmth inside.

- Unpacking = biggest pain in the rear. However, I find organizing almost therapeutic, and that is how I've been utilizing my time.

-Speaking of cozy and being inside, we here at the house of TP have been introduced to Digital cable and DVR. Dangerous. Awesome. I'm discovering and recording shows like Desperate Housewives of Orange County. Oh, the insanity! The trashy shows! I love it. Bring it on. Also, the Mr. and I have channeled our British side - one of his favorite shows is Top Gear (on the Speed channel which the Mr. is Elated about having!) and I've discovered Ramsey's Kitchen nightmares (Gordon Ramsey before he was on his American show as the horrific chef).

- Lasagna tonight for dinner - "Oven Ready" noodles? Yay or nay? I bought them thinking how easy it will be and now I'm nervous to try them out.

- Outlets vs. Stores. For example, I went to some outlets over the break - after Christmas and got a few Amazing deals at J.Crew. Bootcut cords for $17.00, argyle sweater for 29.99 and bangles for 9.99. Also, should have bought a herringbone blazer for about $60.00 but I was feeling the shopper's remorse. Now, I'm kicking myself. Also! I picked up a wallet (that was originally online for $98 and I got it for about $24) that I'd been eyeing at Banana Republic for awhile......All that to say, I enjoy the merchandise at the outlets better, they usually have some of the same lines available online but also different lines. I get sick of going to stores to only see a small fraction of their offerings. J.Crew's selection of accessories, bags and pajamas was great! I mean, of course, I love outlets for the prices, but now I'm liking the selections better too.

- Resolutions or as I like to say, just "re-focusing" on the routine. I think the New Year is just a good way to start over or continue the things one wants to work on. I'm continously thinking about things I want to do or try.
However, I have been Entirely slack on working out. Ugh, feeling very UN toned these days. Therefore, the plan is to sign up for a 5k in the spring (like May. ha!) Hubby and I both want to get back into our running routines and as a few of you have mentioned the "Couch to 5k" program is great (and I think, feasible.) Back to eating healthy, normal meals again. I forgo the "low-carb, south beach etc. diets (because, really, I've tried it and I'm just not cut out for all meat and cheeses) BUT I do want to focus on adding more fruits, veggies and whole wheat into the diet. Along with cutting out some desserts. Nothing crazy just re-focusing on the good stuff. Also, it feels good to get that "re-focused" motivation back. Last fall was hard for me and now I'm ready to get my MA finished and out of the way. I also have been (and still kind of am) freaking out about not having a job....I just haven't NOT had a job in so long it feels strange but I have a few things I'm looking towards and meanwhile, getting us back in working order!
So, for 2008, re-focusing on getting healthy and enjoying a new place with my husband!
(and getting to outlets more often ;)

Whew

We are here! Somewhat settled, somewhat living amongst chaos.
The holidays have come and gone (I hope everyone had a lovely and safe season!!). We rang in the New Year with chili, football and bourbon drinks - not too crazy but just how we like it. Oh, and a little snowfall!

The past two weeks have been hectic and exhausting but exciting as well. We traveled hundreds of miles, unpacked, made a Christmas Eve trip to Target (WHY??) because we didn't have a shower liner or lamps for the upstairs (why you would build a townhome w/out lights in either upstairs bedroom is beyond me...!), eaten Subway way too many times to count, made an 8 hour trip with a puking dog in the backseat (poor guy!),attended a wedding and consumed way too much Diet Coke & Starbucks. All in all, things are good and we are really enjoying our new place within walking distance of a renovated downtown (small) but with adorable shops and restaurants. Ralph, who has the spent the last week with my parents (getting SPOILED beyond reason) is back with us and happy as a clam.

Full recap and posting will resumed later, hopefully this week, including trips to the outlets, a NC wedding, our first Christmas and the official (and desperate) job hunt!!
In the meantime, we are continuing to unpack and settle right in. Seriously, I cannot stand boxes and un-organized rooms, like drives me crazy, so I'm on the maniacal mission to get it done.

2007 was a crazy, busy and fabulous year! I'm looking forward to the next steps and 2008.
I think it's gonna be a good one :)
