My week has been slightly uneventful so far. I think I'll be getting work at the end of this week/beginning of next week. Of course, now that working most days is on the horizon, I think to myself - do you really want to give up your Martha Stewart in the morning? (I do, I really do!)

I've been following the primaries on T.V. and keeping up with all of that news. P says he's tired of the news 24/7 about the election which I can see BUT I would much rather the news be covering something (allll the time) that IS newsworthy. This election? Is totally newsworthy and should be everywhere, instead of what they've been covering (like celeb gossip).

Yesterday, I realized (of course after running errands, going to a meeting etc.) that my favorite black shirt had a little hole in it. Right on the boob area. Totally noticeable. You know how you have that "black shirt" that is THE staple. I got this one from Anthropologie, gosh about 2 or 3 years ago. It was of the long length type, had elbow length sleeves and a rounded/boat neck. Perfect because I could dress it up or just wear with jeans. As much wear as this guy has gotten, though, I'm surprised it's held up this long! I suppose now, I need a new one.

What to give up for Lent? Last year I gave up cookies (I think). Because I am a cookie monster, that was a long Lent! By virtue of budgeting and lack of job, I haven't been shopping, so that's not a great idea. I could say I would give up dessert - but do I want to really say something that probably won't follow through? I usually give up some sort of sweet. Any ideas, what are you giving up?

Real Simple's March issue has a great section on budgeting and reveals the monthly expenses of 4 women. Really informative. I think I've just been harping on budgeting lately because I'm out of work, we want to save for a house and looking at the economy - well, I think everyone is pulling back. It also makes me think (P & I have many discussions on this) how our culture just places sooooo much importance on money. We just want to be able to live happy and comfortable lives and not beyond our means. It is hard though and P always mentions how we should get a weekend hobby that does not include shopping (ok, that is totally me and I will probably NEVER give up shopping) but I'd like to have a better outlook on it. I talk to my grandparents who didn't have cell phones, cable, internet and going out to eat bills. And they were happy! They didn't see the need in the extra spending, and I hope to use them as role models for that! Whew, that's enough of the soapbox today.

I've been perusing home decorating sites, magazines and stores just to have get ideas about how I'd like to decorate a house (one day!). I thought about getting all Martha and clipping out pics I like and saving them in a book. Then, I realized that would never get done and I could just bloggy it away! Plus, we've been spending a decent amount of our weekends looking at furniture. Sitting on couches with pestering salesmen giving us their card (listen, I know it's commission but please give us a minute!). P & I are pretty much on the same page about our style for a home (this is Surprising b/c usually we don't even agree on movies!). Traditional with clean modern lines. What has been surprising to us out there in furniture store land? How many stores rip you off with prices that do not match quality! How many show rooms are cluttered full of pieces you can't even tell what's what. How people run with "modern" furniture and the store looks like it's out of the Jetson's. Modern can be clean lines and functional my friends! Anyway, we've agreed that the places where we want to buy the long lasting pieces of furniture that are our taste are just not in the budget right now. We will make do with some cheaper (read IKEA and friends) pieces that will suffice and probably be good for kids rooms/play rooms/living rooms down the road.

Howeva, here are some pics I found that I love.
Domino Magazine has some great galleries:

I grew up in a 1920's house and we had a porcelain tub - I love this tub!
I really like the clean lines, the bead boarding and the white tiles in this bathroom.

I enjoy butcher block counters. I know granite is all the rage and I would never turn it down, but I think butcher block is my favorite. The pink tiles are fun aren't they?

I love articles that show people and their spending. I was amazed when Oprah had her debt diet a few years ago at all the people who are living SO far above their means and were so miserable but continue to do it. It's interesting to see how people spend their money and what they value. I think a lot of people are wising up and being more conservative in spending. We will see.

I really do think the economy is starting to make people a bit nervous. I know a lot of our friends are toning down their spending somewhat - we definitely are.

Loved your bathroom choices. Beware of butcher block counters though. We had them in our on-campus house when we first moved here and although they were cute, I had to be really careful not to burn them. I know you aren't counter-shopping at this exact minute, but when you do, you might want to consider having at least part of your counters in a different surface, especially the area near the range.

I know what you mean about wishing you could cut out everything you see and put it into a binder. When I am planning a party, the month before I will copy any photo I see that looks like what I might want to decorate with, copy any recipe, any planning idea and place it all in a Word doc. that I save on my desktop. Then I have everything saved in one place without adding clutter to my apartment AND I will always known where to find it. Something like that might be helpful for your home decorating search!

It is very interesting to read about household budgets, isn't it? I really like the pictures of the bathroom ideas.
