Weekend wrap-up

Friday was my birthday - woohoo! But of course, on my day off, I spent getting our Save the Dates in the mail - finally! Cooking, Cleaning, preparing for guests but enjoying a long pedicure & manicure :) My sweet guy (among some other presents) got my beautiful tulips and cream cheese frosting brownies (that were to die for!). Then we went out with my future SIL & her boyfriend and my brother and his girlfriend for sushi and drinks. It was so enjoyable to be around the people I loved and we just had a great time!
Saturday we did absolutely nothing and it was wonderful. I took a two hour nap (unheard of for me, I not much of a napper) and read this new book:I love all of the other Shopaholics and this certainly did not disappoint - I was cracking up! I would love to see Becky (the main character) in a movie or tv series - too funny.
And then I got this book as a gift:

This Little Piggy went to Prada: Nursery Rhymes for the Blahnik Brigade: You all this book is hysterical, a great gift for any fashionista friend, I'll give you an excerpt:

"Twinkle, Twinkle, Diamond Ring,
In a blue box tied with String.
Tiffany's new princess cut,
Twice the size of baby's butt."

Saturday evening we just had a burger & beer grill out celebrating the warm weather. We even threw some corn on the cob, in the husk, on the grill - wonderful. It added great flavor to the corn, I think we will do that again when we grill out. Today is just a typical Sunday - church, cleaning, laundry, Wal-mart-trying to get everything done for the week!

My sweet grandparents

This might be a random post, but since this is an online journal of sorts - what they hey?
My grandparents live about 30 minutes away from me and I get to see them often. Usually, we got out for a Sunday dinner or to visit - but, a lot of the time we are just "too busy" to get out there. They are in their eighties and live on quite a few acres of land in their house that they built. They are of the "greatest generation", the men and women who lived through the depression, fought in WWII and other wars and lived through sixties. Anyhoo, they are the greatest example of class and I do enjoy hanging out with them. But last week I took the time to just enjoy time with them. It was a particularly warm and beautiful day and we just walked around their property enjoying the sun and conversation. It was so nice to get away from my cell, the internet & all other distractions - it made me realize that I needed to take time to just sincerely "get away from it all" and enjoy the day! It was such a sweet and relaxing day and my grandmother picked some of her daffodils for my birthday bouquet!

Bridal Shower Etiquette Question

Ok, I need some serious etiquette feedback on this one!
I'll set this up for you - I have two very best friends (hometown, since middle school) who both got engaged within a month of each other. So exciting! They are both getting married in about 9 months, again about a month apart (the weddings, that is). There are about 6 of us in this group, still very tight, all of us each others bridesmaids. But, only one of us lives in the hometown - the rest of us live at least 3 hours away, if not more. So in the midst of all this excitement, my 2 newly engaged friends & their mothers decide to plan a bridal luncheon for me this summer - yay! (And a few of my other friends and their mothers are going to do a shower, the same day).

Now, my mother and I want to hold a shower/luncheon for my friends. The question is, can I do a duo shower for the both of them? My reasons for this idea are because I will be in the midst of planning my own wedding (and will be out of town for it the week and half before, not to mention, the week after for our honeymoon) this summer - so, not a lot of time. Like I said before, we all live at least 3 hours away, have full-time jobs or full-time school - so it is really hard to find time for all of us to get together (hence, why they are holding my shower and luncheon the same weekend - so we could all be there). Furthermore, their families are already planning engagement parties and such, so weekends are getting scarce. I realize that the shower is to honor the bride herself, but would this be a huge faux-pas?? I'm hesitant to do it, but at the same time, I know it will be hard to schedule two different times (esp. since they both have big families who will be throwing them showers as well).
Let me know what yall think! I don't want to be tacky but I also want to be able to give them a fun party with our friends in celebration!

Working for the Weekend

March is kinda crazy around here!
Thanks so much Mrs. P at Chic for picking out some outfits from of course, my favorite places! I love them. I'll let yall know what I decide!
Speaking of purchases, my birthday is coming up on Friday - yess! We have a few friends coming in town for sushi and drinks, but I decided I needed a little early present from J.Crew. I ordered the favorite fit capris in navy, one of their elbow length tees, a chocolate brown cardigan and this little tote for the summer:
I'll get it monogrammed, but I don't know about you girls getting married soon but I'm at a monogram crossroads (oh, the horror!) because I could, I suppose go ahead and get my new initials because it is kind of pointless to get my old ones. I may just stick to the single monogram to make it easier.

In other news, I decided I want to become a good cook, dammit! I love love love food. And actually, I like cooking, I just don't take the time for it. I really learned to cook from Rachael Ray. She taught me how to put some things together, chop and take shortcuts. Poor FI has suffered through my first attempts - esp. RR's day old tomato bread soup - lets just say we threw out that attempt. But now, I want to move beyond my simple skillet chicken or ground turkey techniques, because they just are cutting it anymore. June Cleaver am I not but I would like to be able to produce a great dinner complete with dessert and appetizer. I recently got turned onto Cooking Light website. They seem to have great recipes that aren't heavy but still have flavor - not just barley and lemon juice. We are having guests this weekend, so I'm going to try to have spinach and artichoke dip and breakfast prepared for them! Hmm. We will see how this goes.

Oh, I saw this new fragrance from Vera Wang - seems perfect for all pink lovers:

Whew

What a weekend, I'm ashamed to say that I can't party down like I used to, or should I say, I can't recover like I used to be able! Lots of wine and mimosas this weekend in Savannah. Our loft (which was amazing) was right above the Banana Republic in downtown Sav. I could really live like that, just run in BR when I need a quick outfit. We had a wonderful time, my cousin was so excited and happy about her weekend. We shopped and ate and partied. The best part of the weekend, though, in my opinion was the Ghost Tour Pub Crawl. You meet in a bar, get a beer and have a tour guide who tells you ghost stories, funny stories about eccentric locals and wacky rumors - it was so much fun! I would def. recommend to anyone going to Savannah, for about 10$ you get to see a good part of the downtown, visit some great bars and listen to some crazy stories. We ended at the Marshall House - which is a lovely B&B with a great restaurant and bar. Great interior with great SCAD (Savannah College of Art & Design) everywhere.

In other news, this is a busy week for ( I mean really, when is it not a busy week) esp. now that I've realized I'll be gone pretty much every weekend in March and a few in April. Some friends of ours are hosting a St. Patty's day engagement party for us (FI's family is Irish - so its a great theme), complete with green beer and all of the works & we are so excited. But, I'm having trouble finding a great green outfit that says "YES Wear ME, I'm Perfect!" It's going to be more on the side of casual and I've found a few tops that I like but nothing that I'm excited about.
Let me know if you have any suggestions

March is the best month!

Even on a rainy day like today March is the best - because this is a SPRING rain and warm weather is on the way. So, in tribute of spring, I wore my green/almost minty cotton trousers with my pink/cream striped Polo rugby shirt with my light blue rain jacket. Bring on the pastels!
And bring on the allergies...I can almost feel the pollen working its magic.
Update on the florist situation, I called the EX florist, to give them a piece of my mind, but sadly and so not surprising...I had to give it to an answering machine. Ha. But, alas, I have a new florist who is efficient in returning my calls and can be contacted through email - kinda crucial these days, I think.
Just busy here, getting ready for the weekend and such.
Things that I wish I were enjoying today:
*Starbucks skim latte - no foam (they took away our Starbucks & put in "Jitterery Joe's" - what kinda place names their coffee shop that??)
*A great movie, like Breakfast at Tiffanys or Beverly Hills 90210 on DVD, under my shabby chic comforter...ahh.
*Macaroni and cheese, I'd take the Lean Cuisine kind but I would prefer the homeade fattening kind.
Thats about it for now!
