Starbucks, tea, style & other things

The Mr. (from now on referred to as P) only had to go into work for a few hours today because of the predicted snow (we still got some) so I'm excited about our afternoon together. We got Ralph a new toy which is this hedgehog that makes a weird grunting sound. Ralph gets annoyed (i.e. destroys) toys that make noise but for some reason he's content running around the house with this toy making a noise like someone's having an asthma attack. It's cracking me up.

The other day Kerry from More, More, More asked about the Starbucks v. DD question. I didn't start drinking coffee until the end of my undergrad career. I always swore I would NEVER be one of those people with an (I thought) obnoxious coffee order. Then. Then, I got obsessed with my grande, non-fat, no foam latte with 2 splenda. Yeah, there I was - addicted! Eventually, I realized I needed to control my "latte" factor and began making my own espressos at home. We never really had a DD around, until now. I like DD because of their prices and P likes their coffee better. However, I don't have the willpower to walk into a place filled with donuts - that's why I like the drive-thru! Last semester, though, I was drinking a ridiculous amount of espresso & coffee. I just wanted to switch a de-tox, so we starting drinking tea every morning. We both agree that we feel much better and don't have that "coming down" in the afternoon. I don't doubt that I'll be back to drinking it more when I start working more but for now the English breakfast tea is making me feel more healthy. (Is that as much as you wanted to know about my caffeine intake?! haha)

Speaking of the latte factor, I'm not shopping but J.Crew? You are killing me. Seriously! Can. NOT. afford. Must. NOT. look. I would do a lot for this jacket. J.Crew gods, if you are listening, I would be happy to receive some kickbacks for all of the love I send your way!!

Of course, as with any spring line, I get infatuated with the bright colors, madras and seersucker and convince myself I need it all. Really, I don't. At all. I live happily without all of the things I don't have. Not saying it's hard, I have friends who buy alllll the clothes/jewelry/great bags they want. And yes, I get jealous. And then I forget, because I just live my life. I'd love to have everything I post on here, but I know I don't need it and usually a few months later I forget about it.

As I'm pondering all this, TCP shared a great article about style today. Thanks TCP, I loved reading it. It reminds me of the true sophistication of style and more importantly, knowing your own personal style. And personally, I love that era of 50s dresses because I think women look sexy, smart and confident in dresses. I know I feel most confident in a great dress. Also, I love the idea of making the most out of what you own. Buying long-lasting, classic pieces (like a sheath dress) will make your wardrobe last. But I love what Mr. Kors says at the end of the piece, "These days it is a badge of honor to wear an outfit more than once.(Nytimes.com)" Sorry Mr. Kors, that is called "reality" and we all wear outfits more than, usually because we just enjoy the outfit. Goodness!

Have a great weekend!

I can completely relate to your frustration with J Crew! I continue to want practically everything in their catalog! I try and recycle their catalogs immediately when they come in the mail.

I love everything in the J Crew catalog too. On the webite they even have the most adorable key chains. This company is the best.

LOVE that coat. the collar with the ruffles, the wrap tie on the side, the color - yummy! They always have such fabulous stuff at Jcrew, right? trouble trouble trouble.
I used to be a tea girl all the way, but in the past few years it's been nothing but coffee. I do love strong sweet iced tea in the summer though. I agree, it is a much more 'balanced' way to get your caffeine!
Have a great weekend!

I love tea too:) I try not to have coffee every single day. I love it - but if I have it all the time, I am definitely much crankier & my skin gets very dehydrated!

The J Crew spring line is going to be my downfall!! SO much cute stuff!

Ahhhh, English Breakfast tea - now that's what I'm talking about!! (shhh, I won't tell you that tea actually has MORE caffeine than coffee, as I'm sure you really don't want to know that!)

Truly - receiving my J Crew catalog is torturous. I want nearly everything in it. Not healthy for the budget. It would help if they either 1. stopped making everything so cute, 2. brought their prices down to something more reasonable and Gap-like, or 3. stopped sending me a damn catalog every other week. I'll just be recovering from my last one and be at peace with my current wardrobe and then - ta da! - I open up the mailbox to find yet another catalog filled with cute things.

I think I might be thinking the same thing - I actually prefer Tim Horton's coffee to Starbucks. On the other spectrum - I think I might start buying some stock in J.Crew just because I might buy everything in the store.

I can't even look at J. Crew right now. I want EVERYTHING they have.

A badge of honor!? You're right, Britt, that's reality!

By the way, the hedgehog sounds like something Devil Dog would go nuts over.
